"I see my own painting process as a form of visual narrative, like imaginary adventure stories, expressing
the excitement of discovering new places, the aura of ancient or historical sites, describing the
atmospheric effects of the contrasting moods of the weather, patterns on landscape.
I like to convey this excitement through a creative process. I work on a range of surfaces, such as bark,
found dressed wood, board, MDF, ceramic tiles as well as recycled card, Arches and Fabriano paper,
canvas and canvas boards, all with colour built and spread, wiped, and then working back through layers,
in order to reveal hidden stories beneath. In my mixed media drawings, which are often over previously
created paintings and prints, I add more surface and colour to explore new avenues and directions giving
the previous expressions of these works a a new visual story.
Although many of my early career canvas paintings were completed in oils, all my current and recent
canvases are undertaken using water based acrylic paints which complement my works on paper, while
working in a more environmentally friendly way."
